Tesla Space #95: Delivery Frenzy

... and all you need to know about Tesla and Elon-related companies this week.

Welcome to the Tesla Space newsletter, our 95th issue.

I’m going to launch something, a resource around Tesla Space meant for you, very soon. Putting in the final touches and then look out for a special email from us. Until then, guess what?

Tesla doesn’t sleep. And we all know Elon doesn’t.

So here’s what has been up with Elon and his companies this week:

  • Tesla has entered into Delivery Frenzy mode;

  • Giga Berlin returned water rights for producing more efficiently than they planned (which is already crazy water efficient);

  • Did we just get a leaked list of what Tesla scrapped from the affordable Model Y?

  • FSD V14 rolling out to owners this week;

  • First real V4 Supercharging site (V4 cabinet + V4 charger) opens!

  • Boring Company’s Global Operations Control Center in Bastrop, Texas

…and more, as always. Enjoy!

Oh wow, I could really use that glove box organizer. Too bad your boy here is European (yes, really), so I’ll have to wait until they’re launching here as well.

Alright, let’s carry on with the newsletter 👇️

X OF THE WEEK

Deliveries are in such a swing they’ll hit several generations of the same family in one go:

$TSLA

Tesla shares are up +1.93% since last Tuesday close, +31.8% in the last month, and Tesla now sits at a ~$1.38T market cap.

If you are a shareholder of Tesla, please go vote your shares for the upcoming Shareholder Meeting on November 6th. Here is a thorough overview of how to do it on larger platforms.

Elon also commented on the stock price movement (which is rare'ish to see): "A lot of people thought Tesla stock would collapse as the tax credits came to an end this month. Guess not."

TESLA NEWS

DELIVERY FRENZY

The Q3 delivery numbers will be published on Thursday.

Tesla has being pulling all sort of levers to let people know the tax credit ends (Today, Sept 30th), including text messages, Instagram, YouTube, X ads and more. There was even a countdown clock on its site (just snapped the pic above).

There's also a record amount for this year of production & new vehicle inventory at Giga Texas, seen from these drone pics from Joe Tegtmeyer.

Tesla’s new delivery center at Giga Texas is now open and delivering cars as well. They even now have a small track for the kids to drive the mini cybertrucks, there's a Tesla Semi for viewing, and the customers can see the cars drive themselves from the factory autonomously.

Here’s a drone view from Joe on the track and the surroundings.

Tesla North America also shared this pic, saying Deliveries are in full swing:

Also, Tesla customers who choose direct delivery at Giga Texas are given 24-hour access to Tesla's Robotaxi service in Austin. This is what the invite looks like:

More Tesla news:

  • Tesla has also been advertising on FB, IG, X, Reddit, Google etc for Tesla owners to vote their shares for Annual meeting.

  • Tesla also just released a new explainer video for Elon's 2025 CEO Performance Award. It says "We pay for outstanding performance – not for promises.”

  • Xiaomi CEO is an absolute fan of the Tesla Model Y, says: “We bought three Tesla Model Ys for disassembly and research inside Xiaomi earlier this year. What a great vehicle.”

  • Tesla surprisingly returned 377,000 cubic meters of annual water rights to local authorities due to lower-than-expected water use at its Giga Berlin facility.

In 2024, Giga Berlin used 456,953 cubic meters of water, about 2.16 cubic meters per vehicle produced, below the industry average of 3.50 cubic meters per vehicle.

  • There are now more than 50k Tesla owners in Türkiye, less than 3 years after Tesla delivered its first car in the country.

  • You can now see Tesla service progress at a glance via iOS Live Activity:

VEHICLES

Did most of the scrapped features of the affordable Model Y (whatever you call it) leak?

@greentheonly, the guy who digs around in Tesla code, found quite a lot of changes for the Simplified Model Y “E41” in the firmware. Here’s all of what he unearthed:

  • They will have two audio options: "essential" and "essential with commodity"

  • Backup camera would lose a heater

  • no "airwave" in console

  • E41 fascia (performance will also get a fascia update)

  • simplified fiberglass headliner

  • simplified cabin lighting (footwell only)

  • simplified seat controls (single axis)

  • no power mirror folding

  • no puddle lamps

  • no glass roof

  • no second row display

  • no tpms

  • simplified 18" wheels

  • “Suspension is also a downgrade I think”

  • There's going to be RWD and AWD trims.

If you remember, there were these spy shots going around that might’ve hinted at a similar interior — for example, no glass roof, etc

But! Hold your horses, all this remains speculative until we' actually see what Tesla launches. It is still my hope that Tesla innovates, rather than scrubs from features, to get to the lower entry price. Perhaps a mix of both?

When you wouldn’t mind getting caught:

Here’s some eye candy for you from UP. FIT, the responder arm of the Unplugged Performance. Gov agencies and private parties order their upfitting services for their enforcement fleets. The pics above and below are shared by Ben Schaffer, the co-founder/CEO of UP.

Now, on the roads, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have started to receive their new fleet of 10 Tesla Cybertrucks that the billionaire Ben Horowitz recently donated — here’s one:

FSD & ROBOTAXI & SOFTWARE

FSD V14 should be going live for owners this week. Elon said late last week:

"Version 14.0 goes into early wide release next week, then 14.1 about 2 weeks later and finally 14.2. The car will feel almost like it is sentient being by 14.2."

Elon also answers "Not for long" to Tesla summon (ASS) not working well in multi-level garages.

Tesla Australia & NZ writes: “In less than 2 weeks, owners have travelled 1 million kilometres on FSD Supervised in AU & NZ. That's roughly 67 laps around Australia or 625 trips from Auckland to Invercargill”

Oh and if you had to think twice if FSD is going to have an impact on people’s lives, here’s one POV:

Hey, you. Yes, you. If you see this, you should Upgrade and become a Tesla Space Insider.

TESLA ENERGY & SUPERCHARGING

Tesla has officially opened its first next-gen V4 Supercharger with V4 cabinets, capable of 500kW charging speeds for cars and up to 1.2MW for the Tesla Semi!

Location: 2545 El Camino Real, Redwood City, CA 94061

To clarify — we’ve seen V4 Superchargers around for a while, but since the high-voltage cabinet had been at the V3 or ~V3.5 level, they couldn’t support the 500kW charging. And other Teslas, except Cybertruck, can’t use this 500kW for the maximum power at all and remain at 250kW.

Cybertruck charging at the new V4

1.2 MW config for Semi. For cars it can be configured as either 1.2 MW or 1 MW efficiently shared across 8 V4 post.

Also, this new V4 cabinet is a huge unlock for Tesla in scalability of its infrastructure deployments: instead of 4 stalls per cabinet, it can now handle 8, and it has 3X the power density along with a lot more efficiency throughout, along with lower costs.

Here’s a look inside the cabinet, from Max de Zegher at Tesla Supercharging:

Max also wrote: “Lots of other benefits too (efficiency, density, throughput, deployment, servicing) that ultimately help the cost per kWh for our customers.

Additionally, we have V2 sites that have been operational for over a decade already. V4 cabinet Superchargers opening now, are the tech that will provide awesome charging for the next decade+”

Dan Priestley, the lead of Tesla Semi program, also shared the benefits for the Semi:

“V4 cabinet rocks and has large benefits for Semi
-Commonality with car uses increases volumes, decreases cost, improves service
-Higher power density reduces construction costs and footprint on yards
-More efficient energy conversion reduces operating cost
-Deployable worldwide”

Tesla also showed the first plug-in at the new site as well:

looks like they got some merch, too

Tesla Supercharging Network turned 13! 🎂

I celebrated on X by uploading Elon’s Supercharging Network announcement from September 24th, 2012. So happened that Tesla decided to share that video from me that now went quite wide.

First Supercharging highway signage

Tesla got their first display about Supercharging on a (state-owned) highway sign, more to come. This is not that much for Tesla owners, per se, but for everyone else.

MUSKONOMY

Optimus

“Tesla is working hard on scaling Optimus” says Elon, replying on a post about Unitree being "a national security issue" and the need of Optimus, Figure and 1x to outcompete.

SpaceX / Starlink

Starship's 11th flight test is currently scheduled for October 13th. Here is the scheduled livestream link.

SpaceX also launched a 2-minute recap video of the Flight 10

This one will feature a new Super Heavy landing burn config: starting with 13 engines, transitioning to 5 for the divert phase (up from 3 for more redundancy), then 3 for hover before splashing down in the Gulf. Here is the whole mission info and objectives.

The Boring Company

Boring Company shares pics of the Global Operations Control Center in Bastrop, Texas.

"Engineering and Ops Teams can remotely monitor and control multiple Boring Machines simultaneously across the country from this one room."

xAI / Grok

xAI signed an agreement with U.S. federal agencies to make Grok available for $0.42 per organization. Notice the amount. The puns run all the way to the government offers, this is uncanny.

— hi 👋 to overseas, we’ll keep it going!

M wrote:

“I'd like to hear more about Solar City, and its newest developments.”

— Thanks, we’ll keep tracking Tesla solar info, but it’s likely there isn’t much to go around with for a while. In case you missed it, we did a nice deep dive on video 10 months ago here.

Vic wrote:

“Would like to know when the next FSD software upgrade will be installed too!”

Well, if you’re lucky, the V14 incoming is a matter of days or even hours now. That is, if you’ve got the HW4 one and are in the US. If I remember correctly, you took delivery quite recently, so let us know if you get it!

David wrote:

“I hope you’re collating all these News Letters because one day you ought to turn them into a book…”Tesla’s influence””

— Hmm, actually building on this massive wealth of knowledge and updates we’ve covered in our nearly 100 newsletters, there might be something there. Not promising anything, but perhaps a tool to tap into that would make sense.

Thank you all, including those of you just leaving the quick words like “excellent” and “keep it coming” — I read every single feedback, every week, and really appreciate you!

See you next week for more,

— Jaan, Ted, and Sean.
