X OF THE WEEK

This one is actually two-fold. And it’s got to do with Starlink on the planes.

Delta rejected adopting SpaceX's Starlink on its fleet because it wanted to provide internet connectivity to passengers via the Delta Sync portal, instead of the Starlink-branded portal. Delta has since chosen to partner with Amazon's LEO.

and then he elaborated:

Goes well with Elon’s algorithm step 1: Question every requirement.

Incredible dedication to the mission, isn’t it?

TESLA NEWS

Tesla is investing an additional $250 million to expand 4680 battery cell production at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg in Gruenheide, Germany, bringing its total planned capacity at the site from 8 GWh to 18 GWh annually.

The expansion more than doubles the facility's previous battery production target. Tesla said the ramp-up will require more than 1,500 additional employees as production scales.

This was also confirmed by the Director of Cell Manufacturing Operations at Tesla, Michael Guilfoy:

Looks like Tesla has now cracked the 4680 production.

The buzz around the Tesla Semi continues.

Tesla Semi's secret sauce that will make it a double blow to diesel truck fuel costs and emissions:

In simple terms, an integrated ePTO allows refrigerated trailers (and other equipment) to draw power from the main Tesla Semi battery.

No more separate diesel-powered generator systems to keep the trailer cold.

And zero noise.

True story from my father-in-law:

as a long-distance trucker, he swears that the loud refrigerated trailers choose the overnight parking spot right next to him, on purpose, when he wants to sleep in a truck stop... even if the rest of the truck stop is all empty.

I bet he'd love it for this new version to take off (pun intended)

My bet is that we'll see some novel ideas forming around this new non-fossil energy outlet, much like with the V2L around passenger cars.

The Tesla Semi’s large cab is mounted directly to the frame

Also, Munro Live spoke with Tesla Semi program lead Dan Priestley at the ACT Expo, where he broke down how Tesla approached the Semi as a ground-up engineering project rather than an adaptation of traditional diesel truck architecture.

Full video here.

Priestley said Tesla designed the Semi around an integrated platform where aerodynamics, structural rigidity, and mass efficiency work together to reduce total operating costs. Dan said:

“Aerodynamic improvements have this massive compounding effect on the overall efficiency and total cost of ownership of the truck. We want to treat this much more like a unibody. The battery structure and the chassis of the vehicle, the frame rails and everything associated with supporting the rest of the vehicle, work together in harmony.”

By the way, here’s something that I didn’t initially anticipate about the Semi — it’ll also show up in your Tesla app alongside all other Tesla products! This was shared by the Covenant Logistics VP of Sustainability, when doing their 3-week Semi demo:

We’re monitoring the situation, but for some reason, Tesla Semi also popped up in some European versions of the website… perhaps warming up for a market launch.

Here’s a bit of a roundup we’ve researched about Tesla’s sales across the world:

  • 🇨🇳 Tesla reported 79,478 China-made vehicle sales in April, representing a 36% year-over-year increase. The figure includes both domestic deliveries and exports of the Tesla Model 3 and Tesla Model Y produced at Gigafactory Shanghai.

  • 🇰🇷 Tesla surged 812% YoY in South Korea as Model Y sold 10,086 units in April, becoming the first ever imported model to crack 10k sales.

  • 🇩🇪 Tesla recorded its strongest April ever in Germany, with 3,149 vehicles registered. This represents a 256% increase year-over-year.

The result also marked a 142% increase from January 2026, making it Tesla’s strongest start to a quarter in nine quarters.

  • 🗾 April registration data from Japan showed Tesla deliveries surging exactly 200% year-over-year to 1,041 vehicles. Tesla Japan saw 347 registrations in April 2025.

Quick rounds:

  • 🇺🇸 Tesla celebrated the last Model S & Model X produced at the Fremont Factory. 14 years of history for Model S, 11 years for Model X. That’s it, production is now done.

  • 🇦🇺 Tesla highlighted a new case study on video for its Tesla for Business program, featuring Compnow, Australia’s largest privately owned IT company.

Compnow operates just under 30 Tesla Model 3 vehicles across Australia as part of its corporate fleet transition.

Compnow executives said the shift to Tesla improved fleet efficiency, reduced manual administration, and aligned with the company’s broader technology and sustainability goals.

  • IF Metall union's Tesla strike in Stockholm drops to just nine people, from 21 at the start of the year. That should surely mean the strikes are just about to end, right?

  • The new Frost Blue Model Ys are rolling off the line in Fremont

  • The new Marine Blue color also launched for Model 3 Premium, here’s a video of it.

  • The city of Covington, Kentucky, is adding 7 Tesla Model Y patrol vehicles to its Police fleet, replacing seven gas-powered vehicles.

  • $TSLA stock has had a pretty good month, propelling Tesla back to 1.4T valuation, not that far from a new all-time high market cap.

ROBOTAXI, FSD & CHIPS

Denmark debunks media FSD reports like Reuters': No, we are not skeptical about FSD, it's just confidential:

Recently, Reuters published an article claiming that “European regulators show(ed) marked skepticism” towards FSD Supervised and its safety benefits.

The Danish Road Traffic Authority’s response to Reuters’ claims is direct (emphasis ours):

The Danish Road Traffic Authority has at no time expressed either positive or negative opinions about the approval of Tesla's FSD Supervised, and therefore cannot recognize the criticisms we are being quoted for.”

Look at all them Cybercabs!

Drone footage captured by longtime factory observer Joe Tegtmeyer shows more than 70 Tesla Cybercab units gathered in outbound lots at Gigafactory Texas, offering one of the clearest external signs yet of a deliberate production ramp.

The footage shows multiple clusters of Cybercabs parked across the site, with several vehicles also visible moving through factory areas.

A Cybercab was spotted with a Starlink dish on its back. We haven’t seen this before:

From the founder of robotaxitracker. com and the soon-to-be robotaxi intern at Tesla, Ethan:

And then there are stories like this:

TESLA ENERGY

Tesla is piloting a new dynamic waitlist feature at select Supercharger stations, designed to automatically organize charging queues during peak periods. Here’s a quick video of it.

The pilot is currently live at five high-traffic locations across California and New York: Los Gatos, Mountain View, San Francisco, and San Jose in California, and the Bronx in New York.

Drivers can join the waitlist directly through their vehicle's touchscreen or the Tesla mobile app.

ChargedEV Hubs emerges from stealth as an AI-first CPO, launching an 8-stall third-party Supercharger site in Georgia, with hundreds of stalls in development.

AI has been embedded in a lot of charging companies over the past few years and has moved from a buzzword to actual operations. For a good reason.

But here, I believe we're seeing for the first time how a new CPO is built up AI-first (!). This new way of operations to compete with the giants is also enabled by Tesla, which has created a turnkey launch opportunity with their Supercharging for Business program.

MUSKONOMY

together with Jensen Huang. Btw Elon confirms he is connected to the Internet via Starlink… (or is it Starshield) 😉

Elon flew to China with President Trump and an impressive list of the top CEOs (including Jensen Huang of NVIDIA, Tim Cook of Apple, et al) to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping.

X, Elon, Tom Zhu (Tesla’s China boss)

It’s yet to be determined what will come of it all. Hopefully good deals to the muskonomy?

SpaceX

SpaceX has just released a huge list of changes in Starship V3, which is now scheduled to launch on May 19th. The launch window will open at 6:30 PM ET.

The upcoming flight will debut the next generation Starship and Super Heavy vehicles, powered by the next evolution of the Raptor engine and launching from a newly designed pad at Starbase.

The flight test’s primary goal will be to demonstrate each of these new pieces in the flight environment for the first time, with each element of the Starship architecture featuring significant redesigns to enable full and rapid reuse that incorporate learnings from years of development and test.

On rumours of SpaceX planning to grab land in Lousiana, Elon says: “SpaceX is considering several locations domestically and internationally to build the world’s most advanced spaceports!”

xAI Grok

xAI is rolling out Skills on Grok.

This new feature lets you create custom skills that Grok can reuse across conversations. Skills run inside Grok’s sandbox environment, so they can edit files, use your Connectors (Gmail, GitHub, Notion, etc.), run code, or perform any repeatable task you define.

This got me curious. Click to vote on this poll, I’ll share results next week:

Here’s a couple of your notes from last week:

“It would’ve been nice to hear something about us poor HW3 owners waiting with bated breath to hear how Elon is going to sate our need for FSD - upgrading HW3 or a new car credit? I’m nearly 80 yrs old and running out of time. 😎

All we’ve got was the earnings call chat, after that they’ve been quiet so far… but as always, we’ll let you know as soon as we’ve got something.

O said:

“Really surprised about Colossus allowing Anthropic access to compute.. But at least there's the option for pulling the plug if it transforms into Misanthropic! :)”

— Surprising indeed, especially given Elon’s Misanthropic comments before.

Sandy said:

“Very informative. Helpful in keeping up with all Elon Musk entities. Thank you!”

— Thanks for keeping up with us, Sandy!

Phillip said:

“Unreal value for our family with two old Teslas, one a v3 FSD car. I paid for them both with my 2010 stock purchase. Thank you.”

— Thanks, Phillip, hope you’ll get a suitable upgrade on that V3.

Kath said:

“I was surprised about Claude having access to Colossus 1”

same here. But I bet Elon got a really good deal out of it from what essentially is a direct competitor.

“I am fascinated and blown away with all that you guys are doing. Covering so many directions at the same time. It is what I envisioned as a kid. Now 75. It all gives me hope that after my passing the world will be a better place. Keep up the great work with this magazine. If only our government could be this forward looking and thinking of making the world a better place. Instead of thinking about power, money and greed.”

— Thanks! We do try our best to keep up. There’s a lot to be excited for!

Y said:

“Found the stories very interesting as in Australia we are up to 5 years behind US. The Semi info is something I wound like to see in Australia”

— Thanks! I bet the Semi is incoming to Australia, but it’ll take some time. I’m wondering if Tesla will start up a Semi plant in China next to cater also Australian market. They’ll certainly build one in Europe.

“Thanks especially for the Nashville TN update!”
