X OF THE WEEK

Bold claim by Elon, but… we're guessing he’ll bring the receipts quite soon (more in our robotaxi section).

By the way, fun fact, the man himself clicked like on one of my posts on X a few days ago. Fun times — how he has time for that

TESLA NEWS

Elon did a one-hour interview with Ron Baron at the 32nd annual Baron Investment Conference.

Ron Baron thinks $TSLA will be a $2,500 stock within the next 10 years ($8.3T market cap). Tesla also brought their entire car fleet, including the Cybercab, to NYC for the annual Baron conference.

Some chip updates from Elon:

Elon, writes on the critics (Jim Chanos) saying Tesla spends too low to be a real player in AI and Robotics": Exactly. The reason Tesla hasn’t yet spent more on AI training is that it wasn’t yet the Limiting Factor for FSD."

It will be that for Optimus, so we’re building Cortex 2 for training.

Another update on chips: "Yup. Just wrapped up the AI5 Saturday chip design review a few hours ago. We’re starting to do some work on AI6 too. Michael Dell and I happened to be meeting just beforehand, so I invited him to join. Hopefully, he found it interesting.

Btw, AI5 will not be available in sufficient volume to switch over Tesla production lines until mid 2027, as we need several hundred thousand completed AI5 boards line side."

Elon also wrote more on AI5: "Looks like we can bring power consumption down closer to 250 Watts, which is a big deal for Optimus. Important to note that AI5 is a specialized inference chip for the Tesla AI software. That said, it will perform – for our purposes – much better than anything else available. To borrow Jensen’s phrase, we wouldn’t use any other chip in our cars and robots even if they were free!"

FSD is now a part of Tesla's referral program. Tesla writes:

"Earn $15 in Tesla Credits when you refer anyone to experience Full Self-Driving (Supervised) during a demo drive.

And if they order a Tesla using your referral link, you’ll get $250 in Tesla Credits or $500 in Tesla Credits if they purchase their vehicle with Full Self-Driving (Supervised)."

  • Tesla, like some other automakers, is reportedly looking to phase out China-made parts at US factories (although it's highly local already anyway).

  • Tesla has lowered US Model Y lease prices by $3,000 by eliminating the down payment. The starting monthly price stays the same at $479/mo, but now you can get that with $0 down.

  • The new Model Y Performance has started appearing in US showrooms.

  • Ted and Fran, who are both 83 years old and from Alaska, just took delivery of a Cyberbeast at Giga Texas. Their nice story is shown in this 3-minute video.

Fran and Ted with their new Cyberbeast

  • Tesla Shop in China now has an Optimus Christmas version (likely we’ll get it soon too):

We should be telling you to sign up for the Tesla Space Insider here…

… but we’ve got such a great deal coming for you next week for that shopping holiday thing that we’ll let you pass today. 🤫

FSD & ROBOTAXI & SOFTWARE

Tesla released a new FSD (Supervised) Safety Report page: tesla.com/fsd/safety

I’ll let some screenshots do the talking here — it’s great they’re showing the data transparently here.

Counters increment at the average rate of Tesla fleet mileage per second. This number may not include mileage increases for the growing fleet and free trials offered. FSD (Supervised) Vehicle Safety Report excludes data from China.

By the way, Tesla team just completed over 600 FSD (Supervised) test drives in the last 2 days at the Everything Electric Show in Melbourne, Australia. One more day left. Tesla has a fleet of 20 vehicles at the show.

Robotaxi floodgates are open

… at least in terms of access, even if there aren’t as many on the road yet.

Tesla has opened access today to both its ride-hailing service in the Bay Area and its Robotaxi service in Austin, Texas. People just downloading now are getting immediate access to the service, no more waitlist (on iOS).

Also, Elon has been playing against Waymo a lot more recently:

Remember Elon’s words just recently: “Tesla will have 500 Robotaxis in Austin by the end of this year, and over 1,000 cars in the Bay Area.”

I’m still surprised we don’t have Tesla community members out there counting every single robotaxi that is on the Austin/SF streets to track the exact rollout of the robotaxis. This should expand explosively soon.

CarPlay in Teslas?

Tesla, per Bloomberg, is developing support for Apple CarPlay in its cars.

To be fair, I think the only people who want CarPlay for Tesla are the ones that don't have a Tesla.

Bloomberg journalists might have also mistaken AirPlay for Carplay, which would make a lot more sense.

SUPERCHARGING

Tesla Supercharging availability is now also shown live in Google Maps!

Tesla has introduced live pricing at 550 additional Supercharger sites.

It’s live on-peak/off-peak Supercharger pricing based on real-time station use. Average prices stay the same, and rates won’t change mid-session (based on when you plug in).

Max de Zegher from Tesla explains: "A live feedback loop is better than a static one. Our live pricing pilots have been successful so far, reducing congestion while increasing utilization. We see improved load balancing, especially when there are multiple Supercharger sites nearby.

A lot of focus is on getting the forecast as accurate as possible, so customers get the bracket they expected. We're slightly biasing forecasts to get a cheaper price than expected, as it's better to have a positive than negative surprise. We'll keep adjusting based on customer feedback."

MUSKONOMY

Starlink

Emirates has officially announced that they will be adding Starlink's internet to its entire fleet of 232 aircraft by mid-2027. Here's a video that shows some of the install.

Airlines/operators that are using or are in contract to install Starlink internet on their fleet: United Airlines; British Airways; Emirates; Qatar Airlines; Air France; Airbaltic, Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines; Virgin Atlantic; Air Baltic; Air New Zealand; Scandinavian Airlines; WestJet; JSX; ZipAir - and bunch or most offer the high-speed internet on these lines for free now as far as we can tell.

The Boring Company:

The Boring Company has released a new video of Tesla FSD (Supervised) in the Vegas tunnel, vs above-ground ride. Also, on a comment on TBC building a coast-to-coast tunnel, TBC writes: "That's the goal (Hyperloop)! The two largest challenges are increasing TBM speed (which decreases $/mile), and accessing 2,300+ miles of straight right-of-way ("as the crow flies" or, better yet, "as the mole burrows")."

xAI:

Elon says the CNBC story on xAI raising $15B in latest funding round is false. Although… is the exact sum false, or the fact they are raising a funding round false? Classic Elon, not adding the context.

“I love Optimus, the classic look & watching it get down & dance. Great. Alot of interesting videos this time with new info. When will Hinton & the gurus surrounding him get the LLM Token Probability switched out to MCL for all the large energy savings needed as well as encoding ethics & eliminating AI running off the rails, it's lies & deceptions? Trying to follow that closely. Be well everyone!”

See you next week for more stuff around Tesla
