As promised, we’ll kick off our Tesla vs Robotaxi Industry reporting.

I have been gone down the rabbit hole of the global robotaxi industry for better part of this year now, and have emerged with all kinds of insights we wouldn’t know too much about beyond Tesla’s robotaxi plans.

So my goal here, in this report that comes in three parts — yes, there’s so much to tell you I couldn’t fit it all in one, so you’ll get a whole series from me now — is to give you both the global context around robotaxis, and weave in Tesla’s approach within it.

Robotaxis have been announced as something ‘coming’ for a while now.
I can confidently say now:

The robots have arrived.

In the upcoming year 2026, there will be, guaranteed, tens of millions of people globally who will experience a robotaxi ride. Most of them ride one for the first time ever.
Why is it guaranteed, you ask?

I estimate, through my extensive research, that just this week alone, around a million robotaxi rides were completed all over the world. Yes indeed, the robots have arrived.

And as you might’ve realized this million robotaxi rides this week were nearly all done by someone other than Tesla. You can only imagine what’ll happen to this number next year once Tesla starts ramping up!
