Welcome to the Tesla Space newsletter, our 144th issue.

We have some really breaking news this week for you that just can’t wait, so I’ll just drop it here:

Sean, one of the masterminds behind Tesla Space and the guy you recognize as the voice in our YT videos (except this week’s), welcomed a new baby into this world last week.

Now, we’ll get to the newsletter in a moment, but first:

I have this tradition to carry on, which I lifted from a friend who used to work at Honda — they had this embedded in their corporate culture. You see, every time a baby was born to the team, they created a “new model announcement” to celebrate it.

Here’s my version of the same, if perhaps adapted to be a bit more punny for our case:

NEW MODEL ANNOUNCEMENT!

After a stealth development period, the World Premiere was held in early October. The design remains under wraps, but we can share the specifications.

Specifications:

  • Range: 0.00 miles initially,
    to be improved with Over-The-Age (OTA) updates in some months.

  • 0-60 mph: depending on which Tesla he'll drive or ride in

  • Emissions: yes, absolutely

  • Performance: 1 babypower

  • Full Self-Driving capabilities will be unlocked with OTA updates, starting from versions like Full Self-Turning, Full Self-Crawling, Full Self-Standing and Full Self-Walking.

  • Platform: the HE platform, brand-new architecture

  • Battery: lasts up to one hour of operation, improves significantly with the Over-The-Age updates;

  • Charging: 0-80% charge in about 10 minutes.

  • MILK charging standard, which is Plug&Charge capable.

  • PS, initially, hours of downtime after charging is unavoidable.

  • Design: a mix of both manufacturers, with certain details adapted from the predecessor models from the “grand” product line.

  • Features: Audio notifications for low battery level, if stored in temperatures too low or high, and often at random. Without an opt-out button.

  • The production of this specific model trim is limited to one unit, already delivered.

The MSRP is roughly $0.00 until delivery, except for preparations (and a thing called ‘cravings’), after which daily payments are needed for at least 18 years — sometimes directly, mostly indirectly for services and charging costs.

I think someone in the YT comments put it well:
Welcome to the world, space baby!

I truly believe this baby was born into what’s perhaps the most exciting times in human history.

Okay, with that done, there’s lots to cover this week, so I’ll get right to it.

Don’t forget to check the Community Corner at the end and leave your feedback. I answer each of the replies in the section there.

Here’s what’s on the Tesla Space menu today:

  • Tesla’s Q3: 486,532 deliveries, its best quarter yet after the US tax credit was killed;

  • The Model 3 gets a 16-inch screen in the US, and quicker sprints across the lineup;

  • BOO! Halloween Mode drops.

  • A Bentley owner switches to a Model Y for FSD, then buys Teslas for 10 of his employees;

  • 169 Cybercabs in Texas, and Austin Robotaxi rides now run until 11 pm;

  • Superchargers deliver a record 2.4 TWh, and a new robotaxi line shows up on the scorecard;

  • You can now drive away from a US Supercharger with the cable still in (please don’t, though!);

  • SpaceXAI is about to become SpaceXSI;

… and lots more. Enjoy!

TESLA NEWS

Q3 deliveries beat expectations

Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, down 2.1% from the 497,099 it delivered in Q3 2025, but still its best quarter ever without the $7,500 US federal EV tax credit, and about 24,500 units above Wall Street’s expectations of 462,000.

Tesla Q3 2026 production, deliveries and energy storage deployment table

Production came in at 464,391, and Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage during the quarter, 2nd-best quarter ever. Here’s a great chart on this by @SawyerMerritt on X:

Model 3 and Model Y made up 478,237 of the deliveries. Other Models, now essentially the Cybertruck after Model S and Model X production ended, added 8,295 deliveries against 7,004 produced.

Through the first nine months of 2026, Tesla has now delivered 1,324,681 vehicles, combining Q1’s 358,023, Q2’s 480,126 and Q3’s 486,532.

Full Q3 financial results arrive after market close on Wednesday, October 21st. You can count on your boys here sending out an Insider Alert out right after and all the news from the deck & call in the newsletter after that, too. ;)

A sharper Model 3 and Model Y in the US

Tesla has updated the Model 3 and Model Y in the US, Puerto Rico, and Mexico. Every Model 3 now gets a 16-inch center screen at 2560×1440, up from 15.4 inches and 1920×1200.

The Model 3 Premium AWD now does 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds (was 4.2), and the Model 3 Performance gets about 528 hp and 316 miles (509 km) of range, up from 309 miles (497 km). On the Model Y side, the Premium AWD drops to 4.3 seconds (was 4.6).

The 19-inch Nova wheels go a darker gray, and the Model 3 Performance gets an all-black headliner.

The Unicorn: a pink Model Y that has a tailpipe

… to blow bubbles.

Meet The Unicorn, a heavily modified 2024 Model Y Long Range from Essex, wrapped in KPMF Momentum Pink. Its latest mod is a pair of heart-shaped faux exhaust tips that fire bubbles.

Owner Jo and her husband Matt take it to around two UK car shows a week, mostly traditional modified-car events where it is often the only EV there.

It also has a Maxhaust active sound system with V8-style sounds, pops, bangs and simulated gear changes, plus a yoke, flower-petal wheels and unicorn valve caps. Matt’s own Model 3 is cat-themed, with around 7,000 hand-applied stickers.

“We love taking something as divisive as a Tesla into traditional modified-car spaces, having some fun with it, and showing that EV owners can be every bit as passionate, creative and ridiculous about their cars as anyone else.” — Matt and Jo

Their fresh bubble exhaust video clip has passed 630,000 views on Instagram, and the BBC is interviewing them this Friday. Jo also runs the YouTube channel She Drives Electric.

Matt & Jo sent this story to us directly… thanks for sharing guys!

Quick rounds:

  • Powershare vehicle-to-load is now live on new Model 3 and Model Y cars in Australia, New Zealand and China, with Korea following on cars delivered from October. Plug Tesla’s Outlet Adapter in and the car runs your heaters, power tools or camping gear. It can’t be retrofitted to existing cars.

  • 🇦🇺🇳🇿 A new entry Model 3 RWD starts at A$45,900 (US$ 32k) in Australia and NZ$54,900 in New Zealand, A$9,000 under the Premium RWD.

  • Million-mile trucker Adam Wingfield, after touring the Semi factory: “I’m just like, wow, this doesn’t feel like trucking. It feels like transportation innovation.” He walked away thinking “this industry is going to be changed.” And notably, he is the Editorial Director of FreightWaves, which is a huge trucking media platform.

ROBOTAXI, FSD & SOFTWARE

Halloween Mode is here

Halloween Mode is now rolling out in update 2026.38.3 for all Tesla models.

You get a ghost avatar and a “Trick or Treat” mode that plays spooky sounds and flickers the lights when someone walks up.

I especially like how it turns the pedestrians into skeletons on the FSD viz:

There’s also a Halloween light show, themed wraps, a custom lock sound and a spooky Photobooth. And in the app, a remote voice feature repeats whatever you say in a creepy voice.

The full 3D parked scene needs the newer AMD Ryzen computer, but Intel cars get everything else.

Emergency Drive Away feature

Tesla’s new Emergency Drive Away feature, which lets drivers pull away from a Supercharger with the cable still plugged in, works at every Supercharger in the United States. That covers V2, V3, and V4 stalls as well as Supercharger for Business sites.

Normally, as you know, a Tesla stays locked in Park while it’s connected to a Supercharger, and the driver has to release the connector from the touchscreen, the Tesla app, or the button on the charge handle before leaving.

Emergency Drive Away overrides that lock. After confirming an on-screen warning (below) & holding foot on the brake, drivers can shift into Drive and leave with the cable attached. The car then sends short camera recordings of the event to Tesla so the company can check that it was a real emergency.

Tesla touchscreen warning screen for Emergency Drive Away at a Supercharger

Tesla has highlighted that Emergency Drive Away is for emergencies only, since using it damages both the car and the Supercharger. Repair costs depend on the site, but Tesla said electrical and civil work on a Supercharger can run up to $25,000, and the car’s charge port will need a mandatory service visit.

Now, since a lot of discussion followed over this and some found this (somehow?) to be Tesla trying to make a profit out of this, I had to drop my opinion in on why Tesla wouldn’t actually want to do it at all.

And why I am sharing it here is because this mindset was kind of confirmed, since two of those likes to the post came from the very high-up engineers at Tesla related to this topic, both of whose names many of you would know well.

There were additional callouts immediately about how the popular breakaway-adapter brand EVject is done, given Tesla launched this. I find that is very far from true, given that their adapter is a few hundred bucks and doesn’t damage anything when used. So if you have one, you’ll likely to use it with far less hesitation.

You can reply to my email if you’d like to get one with a discount; by the way, they gave me a code a while back, too.

FSD now pushing people from a Bentley to a Model Y

Jason Oppenheim, founder of the Oppenheim Group real estate brokerage, sold his Bentley for a Model Y (video) and says he is buying Teslas with FSD for 10 of his employees. Tesla quoted his video on its own account. This went really viral across Internet, stumbled upon this one reposted across platforms.

“This is the most important video I've ever posted. Tesla's self-driving is life-changing. It's so safe. [...] I'm buying 10 of my employees a Tesla with FSD.” — Jason Oppenheim

Tesla now has 169 Cybercabs registered in Texas, adding 111 in two weeks, 43 of them on October 1 and 2 alone.

Robotaxi rides in Austin now run until 11 pm, an hour later than before. Elon explained what is holding up the later hours:

This one had the industry opponents (read: the LiDAR buffs and anyone anti-Tesla) abuzz yet again, saying that this somehow proves that vision-only approach doesn’t work. Which, of course, isn’t true, and the grey cat would look as indistinguishable to a LiDAR-running car. It’s about the brain, it always has been.

Elon also posted this on the rollout: “We are being extremely careful with autonomous safety, just as we are with making Teslas the safest cars in the world for human driving.”

He posted this under the post from CNBC called it a rocky first month in Austin… you can see the Community Notes feature also working exactly as it should there.

Interestingly, the Robotaxi app can now be downloaded in the UK, Australia, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Singapore and more. Rides are still limited to seven US cities: Austin, San Francisco, Dallas, Houston, Miami, Orlando and Tampa.

TESLA ENERGY

A record quarter for Superchargers

Tesla Supercharger network Q3 2026 scorecard showing 2.4 TWh delivered

Tesla’s Superchargers pumped out a record 2.4 TWh of energy in Q3 2026, 29% more than a year earlier, as the company opened around 2,700 new stalls and grew the network 15% year-over-year.

Charging sessions also rose 29% year-over-year to 69 million for the quarter. Tesla Charging said the network saved 1.1 billion liters (about 291 million gallons) of gasoline and avoided 4.4 billion kg (about 9.7 billion lb) of CO2e over the three months.

This quarter’s scorecard also carries a new robotaxi line, listing 7.0 GWh of "Robotaxi Energy" next to a "100% Autonomy Unlocked" figure.

Your (new) Model 3 or Model Y can now back up your home (with Powerwall)

Powershare Home Backup is now available for new Model 3 and Model Y cars paired with Powerwall 3 in the US and Puerto Rico, for cars ordered after October 1.

Tesla says the car extends your Powerwall backup by over two days, based on 30 kWh of use per day.

The Cybertruck already did this (over three days), and with Powerwall 3 since update 2026.27.10. Per a Tesla post on LinkedIn, the whole US lineup now has AC bidirectional charging.

MUSKONOMY

Project Meridian

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has named Elon, Palmer Luckey and Newt Gingrich as co-directors of Project Meridian, a study of the technologies the US military will need for future warfare. He announced it on September 30 at Marine Corps Base Quantico.

They have 120 days, until January 28, 2027, to deliver an unclassified public report plus a classified annex, covering areas like AI, autonomy, directed energy, robotics and biotechnology. …homework for Elon?

Oh, and President Trump is awarding Elon Musk (and Sergey Brin, Jensen Huang, Lisa Su) the National Medal of Science. He will also award the National Medal of Technology and Innovation to Michael Dell and Satya Nadella.

SpaceX

Crew-13 docked at the ISS about eight hours after launching on October 1, the fastest trip to the station for any NASA crew mission.

SpaceX also shared this shot of the first operational Starlink V3 satellites leaving Starship on Flight 14, which I found absolutely incredible:

Starlink V3 satellites being deployed from Starship in orbit

26 Starlink V3s on their way out (SpaceX)

  • Starlink Communities (beta) lets a host share one Starlink with people nearby, who buy hour, day or week passes for one device, or a month pass for up to four. Pricing and the host’s cut haven’t been published.

  • Starlink is 50% off Residential service in Cameron County, Texas, home to Starbase, for new and existing customers, with a free kit for new ones. It’s the third local deal like this, after Vermilion Parish, Louisiana and Memphis.

  • And the Starlink Mini now costs $149 in the US, down from $199.

  • The Delta saga from last week’s X OF THE WEEK rolled on: United offered to match unhappy Delta flyers’ status through January 31, 2028, pitching “the fastest Wi-Fi in the sky.” The offer ends October 15, and American promised a status match too.

Great power move by Delta there…

Elon says SpaceXAI will be renamed SpaceXSI: Elon said: “Yes, we will make that change,” and “No more AI. SI, it’s better.” It follows a Trump executive order, “Inaugurating the Era of Super Intelligence,” that tells federal agencies to use “Super Intelligence” in public communications. 🤷‍♂️

X Takeover at Giga Texas

X Takeover, the big annual Tesla fan event, takes over Giga Texas on Saturday, October 10, from 10 am to 6 pm, with a drone show at 9 pm. VIP ticket holders get factory tours on October 8 and 9.

The keynote lineup is Maye Musk, Nicki Minaj, Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen (joining virtually) and Cybercab Chief Engineer Eric Earley. There will also be Tesla, SpaceX, Optimus and Neuralink displays and a dedicated Cybercab district - over 2k Tesla fans from around the world are said to be coming.
