…and a lot more. Enjoy!

X OF THE WEEK

…luckily for us, we can witness this game played out live.

Here’s our latest Tesla Space video: Tesla is Up to Something...
The Tesla robotaxi network is growing: bigger, longer, uncut.

Yes, we really used this as thumbnail 🤣

$TSLA

… is up 4.94% in a week (since Tuesday’s close), now at $326.05 per share. This means Tesla is back to $1.01 trillion market cap.

TESLA DINER IS NOW OPEN

Tesla opened the Tesla Diner!

First, it held a “soft opening” for First Responders at the Tesla Diner on Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday. The public launch took place on Monday, 21st, and now anyone can visit.

📍 7001 Santa Monica Blvd, West Hollywood

You can explore what Tesla has said about the Diner itself at their site: tesla.com/tesla-diner.

The site has a 80-stall V4 Supercharger hub (open to all NACS-compatible EVs), making it the largest urban Supercharging station in the world. There is also 230kW of solar canopies and 10MW power on-site.

It has drive-in‑style dining with 250 seats in two stories (the second story outside is called Skypad), roller‑skating servers, and two 66-foot LED movie screens.

You can see the special Tesla Diner menu on their website here, or also on your Tesla even if you’re not there — just find the Tesla Diner Supercharger on your Tesla navigation and click view menu.

Did I mention you can order your food ahead of time straight from your Tesla? Obviously.

The ingredients for the food are all from local farms. Elon says “correct” when asked “No seed oils? Uses beef tallow? No bad chemicals?”

They celebrated the First Responders with this pre-launch event, here’s a minute-long video of the event by Tesla Club SoCal, and a video from Tesla itself. And here’s another, 9-minute video by Wil from FthePump, including a brief chat with Franz.

the soft launch event on Sunday

And on the public opening day, Franz opened the doors at exactly 4:20 (of course), see it on video here.

Audio of movies/videos playing on both screens will sync & play from the speakers inside your Tesla. The sandwiches and burgers are served in a little paper Cybertruck box.

And Optimus is serving the popcorn there, live.
Here’s a video of a full interaction with an Optimus there — likely still teleoperated or doing preprogrammed stuff, but still impressive handling.

The bathroom makes it feel like you’re in a Dragon capsule:

A Tesla Diner app appears in your Tesla, also in the rear screen, once you connect to the Diner's WiFi.

The Diner itself is public but there seems to be an entry code you’ll find at the Tesla Diner Supercharger info on the Tesla app. Perhaps so random fossil cars wouldn’t come and park? And yes, the Supercharger now shows up in your Tesla app.

Here’s a video showing how your car will be able to watch the videos being played on the big screens also in your vehicle screen. The demo vehicles they had on display had an added app under the Tesla Theatre app.

Tesla Diner also comes with its own set of exclusive merch:

Here are some of the exclusive ones (find prices and others offered here):

Notice something? Sweets?

Yep, Tesla is finally a candy company! I’ve told you about Tesla trademarking some candy names before, like Dog Mode Chill, Mango Bolt, Cyberberry. These are now actual Supercharged Gummies! Here’s Ryan from @klwtts tasting them on video.

This whole candy thing actually predates back to 2018, so I thought I’d resurface it for you:

Will Tesla replicate its Tesla Diner also elsewhere? If it does well, Elon says they will:

Elon also answers “Ok” to someone asking to one to be made at Starbase, Texas.

TESLA NEWS

Tesla 3 and Y again outsold all other EV models in the US in Q2, per Cox Auto:

1. Tesla Model Y: 86,120
2. Tesla Model 3: 48,803
3. Chevrolet Equinox: 17,420
4. Ford Mustang Mach-E: 10,788
5. Hyundai loniq 5: 10,481

Also, the 3 and Y together represented 43% of the US EV sales in Q2.

As for pickup trucks, Cybertruck came in third in Q2 after Ford F-150 Lightning (5,842), Hummer EV: 4,805, with Tesla Cybertruck at 4,306 (-50% YoY). We’ve yet to see the Cybertruck ramp up to meaningful numbers this year — will the second half bring volume?

In other news:

  • Q2 earnings call will take place this Wednesday, July 23rd. Here are the questions entered and voted on in the shareholder platform Say, which will be used for Q&A at the earnings call. Current top:

  • After 15+ years at Tesla, Troy Jones, VP of North America sales and service, is leaving the company.
Tesla has reportedly replaced him with Raj Jegannathan. As usual, Reuters tries hard to make Tesla look bad, saying the IT exec has no car-sales experience and is now running sales. They try to overlook Raj being with Tesla since 2012 already, and has led teams of 500+ engineers there!

  • Tesla has shared a video showing that its Semi truck factory is making good progress. It has a stamping shop now and they have also started installing tools in Powder Coat & Material Conveyance shops.

  • Tesla's patent for "Manufacturing Paint-Free Vehicle Body Panels" has just been revealed. Remember how they plan to make the Cybercabs?

  • Tesla launched its latest Tesla Vehicle Safety Report, which revealed that their vehicle fleet experienced one vehicle fire per 155 million miles driven. That is compared to 19 million for the US average — 8.1x less likely to catch on fire than the US average, and the gap is increasing. And you can see it is getting even better:

Tesla also launched a bunch of new incentives in the US.
For Tesla Model 3:

  • 0% APR financing if taking delivery by September 30th and free transfer of FSD from their current Tesla;

  • 18 months of free Supercharging (not for leases)

  • One free upgrade on eligible new inventory. Only for limited on-site inventory while supplies last.

On the Model Y, inventory upgrade also applies.

Cybertruck gets free 20" Cyber Wheel Upgrade (With All-Terrain Tires) ($3,500 Value). Available for inventory lease orders only.

VEHICLES: Model Y L launch

yes, that YYY logo there isn’t a mistake

On July 16, Tesla launched the Model  Y  L in China. It does seem overwhelmingly likely we see this launched in the US and Europe too.

It is a stretched variant with a third seating row (seats 6 people) and an extended wheelbase. Tesla says it will officially launch this Autumn, but we’ve got some details thanks to the mandatory China’s MIIT registry filing. Here are some of the details:

  • Curb weight: 4,605 lbs (2,088 kg), 209 lbs heavier than the current Model Y AWD

  • Overall length: ~196 inches (4976 mm), 9" longer than the current Model Y

  • Height: 1.7" taller than the current Model Y

  • Wheelbase: 6" longer than the current Model Y

  • Lithium-ion (NCM) battery pack, cells supplied by LG Energy (China)

  • Top speed: 125 mph (201 km/h)

  • The one in the filing is a dual-motor AWD with peak power outputs of 142 kW and 198 kW for the front and rear motors.

  • New wheels, new seats

  • New light gold exterior paint color (for China)

  • Modified rear/C-pillar design, New spoiler

Images from the MIIT filing

Tesla has also filed for a new Model 3+ variant in China, with potentially up to 380 miles of range.

ROBOTAXI SERVICE & SOFTWARE

Robotaxi app gets this update, also the Model Y Robotaxis now adapt and pick you up right where you are located, rather than automatically going to the pickup point on the map every time — they won’t drive past you anymore.

Tesla validation vehicles were observed in Marble Falls, well west of Austin & both the expanded Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi service areas:

quite far out…

It also seems Tesla is making some moves on people who have signed up for the robotaxi waitlist — to get them a new Tesla “in preparation for robotaxi”.

Elon says a Q3 2025 launch of Tesla's big new FSD update with 4X the params to customers cars is "looking good so far."

And FSD in Australia is close — Tesla boss in Australia, Thom Drew, says they are running through the final stages of validation prior to public release.

This comes as Tesla released a FSD Supervised testing video in Sydney, Australia, on Thursday. Under their original video, they also, of cours,e had to make the joke:

And Elon decided to post yesterday:

“Your Tesla self-driving capability will see a step change improvement as we integrate upgrades for the Austin robotaxi build into the general production release.”

He followed it up with: “We need to validate that improvements for Austin don’t cause regressions elsewhere. For Europe and China, we are awaiting regulatory approval. Hopefully, soon🤞.”

We’re done for today! We strive to be the most value-packed and concise Tesla-related newsletter out there. How did we do?

“You guys are the best! My source for all Tesla updates in one place.”

— There’s so much going on it’s actually hard to fit it all in this one place… but we do try ;)

G said:

“I like how you explain new features.”

— Thank you and noted, we’ll try to keep that route.

And to the one downvote saying “Zero news on Tesla 2!!!”, well, we don’t make the news, we just report on them.

See you next week,
