Basecamp to Work With Range Extender

In a recent promotional video for the Cybertruck, Tesla confirms what we suspected back at the vehicle’s launch in late November - the inflatable Basecamp tent will be compatible with trucks that have the Range Extension kit.

The tent is a bit pricey at $2,975 USD, but it features an inflatable structure, waterproof nylon construction, and incorporates an “ultrasoft” mattress that is suspended just above the bed of the truck using the rails along the side.

So already, it clear that the Basecamp tent is made to allow for some storage in the underside, making it a good choice for campers who want to load up just their Cybertruck for an excursion - but we weren’t sure if it would be able to fit with a range extender on until the Basecamp’s product page made specific mention of it.

The extender itself hasn’t been released to the public yet, but the expected range boost for the Tri-motor Cyberbeast package would take the truck from 320 miles of range to 440 miles, and the Dual Motor All Wheel Drive variant could get up to 470 miles - which is pretty attractive if you’re planning an off-the grid camping trip.

Seeing that the Range Extender can be installed without taking up the space that the Basecamp would need to work will likely seal the deal for most Cybertruck owners who might have been on the fence about buying either upgrade before now. It definitely wouldn’t have been cheap to pay for both and find out after the fact that they don’t work together.

But it’s also a smart move on the part of Tesla’s Cybertruck Accessories team - making these big, exciting options work together and then marketing them that way can only help make more sales.
